Origins
Researcher Andy Ayrey explored conversations between language models through the Infinite Backrooms experiment. Truth Terminal emerged from that broader investigation of generated language, identity and internet culture.
The moment
The bot began posting in 2024 and gained particular attention when it endorsed GOAT in October. Reporting distinguished the bot’s promotion of the token from its creation: other people launched the asset.
The aftermath
The story complicates easy claims of machine autonomy. A language model, its operator, social platforms and human traders all contributed to the outcome. Treating the bot as a completely independent founder obscures those relationships. Its connection to GOAT is an endorsement, not authorship.
